Emerging Scholars
Scholars at the start of their careers face a particular challenge: the most interesting questions often don't fit neatly within a single discipline, and the intellectual communities that might sustain that kind of work can be hard to find. COMIT seeks to be one such community.
Through PhD academies and doctoral fellowships, we accompany emerging scholars at formative moments in their work, bringing them into a community of inquiry organized around the principle of human oneness and supporting work that engages the questions at the heart of COMIT's research program.
How We Accompany Scholars
A community of inquiry
A network of scholars across disciplines working on related questions, and a place for ideas that don't fit neatly in one field.
Intensive academies
Multi-day PhD academies that combine workshops, dialogue, and time in place with faculty and fellow researchers.
Sustained support
Doctoral fellowships that support research over time, well beyond a single event.
Upcoming
A new PhD Academy
We are currently planning our next PhD Academy. Details, including dates, location, and how to apply, will be announced through our newsletter.
Past Academies
Rethinking Rural Futures
Organized by COMIT Senior Fellows D. Lee Miller and Kerilyn Schewel, this PhD Academy brought together emerging scholars and faculty for intensive workshops and fieldwork on rural development, sustainability, and climate adaptation.
Set in a city shaped by centuries of environmental challenge and alive with art and culture, the academy showed that community-building is not a byproduct of deep, creative work but its foundation.
