Artificial intelligence is more than a powerful new technology. It is a force capable of remaking the conditions under which humanity lives, thinks, and acts — and the pace of its development means the most consequential changes may arrive within a decade. The technical challenge of ensuring AI systems behave as intended is real and urgent. But the deeper challenge runs further: the quality of AI's alignment depends on the depth of humanity's understanding of its own ends. Any thinness in our conception of human flourishing will be amplified by systems capable of acting on that conception with extraordinary reach.
COMIT AI Lab exists to pursue that question from within a research program grounded in human oneness. Its work has four dimensions: building genuine competence with frontier AI tools and open-source systems; engaging seriously with the AI safety and alignment discourse; studying the wider conversation about what AI means for human life and where new thinking is needed; and developing the model of a research organization that integrates AI into its intellectual and operational life without displacing the human powers — contemplation, consultation, discernment, judgment — on which genuine knowledge depends. The Lab's wager is that learning to use these tools in right relation to a serious intellectual and spiritual vision matters, and that doing so carefully can yield a contribution of real consequence.
